Bodaway/Gap Chapter

The Bodaway/Gap Chapter is located on the western edge of the Navajo Nation. The chapter has several namesincluding: Tsin' naabaas Hwabiteen, Ba'adoweih, Hwabiteen and Gap. It is said that Bodaway is a Bayoodzin (Puite) word. "Gap" is named after a crossing at the pass over along ridge. The old wagon trail is now a two-lane dirt road, yet to be paved.

The Bodaway/Gap Chapter conducts monthly meetings to keep residents informed; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.

  • Applications for Financial Assistance and others are available upon request at the Bodaway/Gap Chapter Office
  • Xeroxing and Fax services are provided at the Bodaway/Gap Chapter Office.
  • Meals are provided for the Community at the Senior Citizen Center, fees apply for anyone under 65 years of age
Prominent land features include Echo Cliffs, Shinumo Alter, Limestone Ridge, Bodaway Mesa and Tooth Rock. The climate is semi-arid with elevation averaging more than 5,000 feet above sea level. The terrain is generally rugged, with mesas, ridges, rocky hills, and canyons.
